    Good point, well made re: Recording standards. You'd think a phone would be good at this kind of thing huh?

    Yes, please let's have good audio recording on a phone. I want to use mine as a radio journalist and not carry extra stuff. Some miniature cameras achieve quite fair sound (and so do good hearing aids!) so small mikes may not be all the problem. What often is wrong on portable gear is too-basic audio AGC, which slaps and breathes, and misses things. Very easily overcome with a double time-constant (just one additional capacitor and resistor) or better still a 'release chain' (one simple chip) so the gain tracks the audio upwards and downwards. Apart from that, one would suppose the basic A-D conversion quality is not an issue these days.
